Bitter Sweet

So many of you may be wondering what Daniel and I have been up to lately. In a nutshell, we have to impacting the world one graduation party and moving day at a time.  Over the course of I would say the last month we have been jumping from event to event and enjoying the opportunities that we have had to bless people (assuming that they weren't breathing a sigh of relief when we left). This past weekend was the most strenuous as we performed three different moving jobs for three different groups of people. I will elaborate on one of them.

A few years ago, the Lagans basically adopted a really cool guy who was studying at UCONN to become a doctor. Once his residency ended, he decided to move to Maryland to begin the next phase of his education. As a result, with tears and laughter we decided to help him make the move. Four brave Lagans took on the challenge (including Daniel and myself) teaming up with our friend John and his mom to help him make the 5 1/2 hour long journey to his new home.

The Moving Crew

Once the moving van was packed, we struck out with John in the lead in the moving van and I, Kaydrie, following behind in his Honda. We were on a deadline; in an attempt to make it to John's new apartment by 6 PM we set out with determination and high hopes. Things were going well until we reached New York. I am not exaggerating when I say that it took us six hours to go fifteen miles! The entire trip was supposed to take that long! At one point Daniel and Josh were contemplating making a scene in traffic by sneakily breaking into the back of the moving van and retrieving some items. Prudence over ruled the scheme but it would have been fun to see what the onlookers would do since they didn't know that we were with the moving van.

The George Washington Bridge in the distance. We were 15 miles away from this guy for 6 hours and just couldn't seem to reach him.

Another fun experience we had while on this trip occurred when just leaving a toll booth. It was dark out, probably about 10:00 PM, when all of a sudden Daniel notices that a cop is behind me trying to pull me over. I've never been pulled over in my life, and none of us could think of anything I had done wrong, so we were really not sure how this was all going to go. It turned out that I was driving without my lights on (oops). None of us noticed that this was the case because we were surrounded by so much traffic with their lights on that we weren't having trouble seeing anything. Thankfully, the cop was a nice guy, and just asked me to drive with my lights turned on for the rest of the trip :)

All told, this was the most dramatic part of our trip. We ended up reaching our destination after twelve hours of driving; we obviously missed the deadline. After a good nights rest in an inn and breakfast at IHOP, we finally reached his apartment and went to work. We were able to get him all set up in his new place, and we enjoyed much good fellowship in the process. John will be missed, but we're looking forward to the many adventures that will come his and our way as a result of this change in our lives.

IHOP the next morning, refueling for what the day might bring. Notice John's mom in the back, right corner of the table. Her name is Annie and she was so much fun! She taught me how to make authentic Indian tea, and she gave Josh a hard time :)

Moving John into his new apartment.

Exploring Towson

John, enjoying himself.

Breaking in the place with some dinner theater action.

Home Again.

Hasta Luego,
